Great play, great electronic version

Othello was one of the first plays I was exposed to when I was younger. It has murder, suicide, intrigue and things that would get a teenager into Shakespeare.

I've had mixed success with some of the free Kindle versions of Shakespeare. Some have been good, some have been awful. This is an exceptional version. It's formatted nicely and is easy to read. The only "lack" is that it is without line numbers, so if you were to use this for academic reasons, you might have an issue or two.

Thus far, Othello's my favorite free Shakespeare play. I missed how much of a jerk Iago was, and all the deception that lead to Othello killing Desdemona.

Shakespeare's best Villain

Is there any other character in all of literature who is as calculatingly evil as Shakespeare's Iago? His jealousy over being passed over in favor of Cassio engenders a revengeful scheme that turns jealousy into a weapon used to destroy the noble Othello. Here innocence and trust is contrasted with pure manipulation and evil in what is one of Shakespeare's most revealing tragedies. The characters act exactly as they would be expected to based on the overriding quality that they represent. Othello is wonderful Shakespearean drama that ranks among his greatest works.

The Folger Library editions are my favorite. Each page has a facing page that explains obscure terms and helps as a handy reference to make reading the plays pleasurable and educational. These paperback editions of Shakespeare's works are a great value and fit in your pocket.

Really, if you enjoy Shakespeare's plays, then you'll enjoy Othello. The actual read-ability of this digital version is excellent, so I'd recommend it above other digital versions.

Easy to use and follow

I purchased this book to help me study for my exam. So far it had all the information I need to get ready for it. It is broken down into 6 sections as well as an additional section with a,practice test. I also like that it includes 20 test taking tips. I've taken a highlighter and marked key words so I can retain the information much better. I like that it has information which I think is important without the other mumbo jumbo that isn't as impotent in other study guides. It's easy to read and follow. I recommend this book to anyone getting ready to take the TExES Core Subject EC-6 exam.

The content presented for the social studies part of the ...

The content presented for the social studies part of the test is very difficult, but I feel it gives a concise summary of not only the history of the world but the United States.
I do think the practice test is more difficult than the Core Subjects test. .
I plan to use this to prepare my students for the content of the social studies part of the test.
Consider revisiting the questions to make them more appropriate to the Core Subjects Test.

This book provides plenty of content knowledge, but it is certainly not a fair representation of what the format of the test will be. When working through the math section of this book I was quite overwhelmed, but very little of the math content from the book was actually on the test. The fine arts, LA, science, and social studies sections are pretty good, but the social studies section needs to cover more Texas history.

About the Author
Jeff Kitchen worked as a dramaturge at New York’s Playwrights Preview Productions and the Negro Ensemble Company before starting to teach playwriting and screenwriting in 1991. He has worked with executives at Miramax, Sony Pictures, and Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group. He lives in Santa Monica, California.

Single greatest weapon in my writing arsenal.

No one can teach you how to write. Jeff Kitchen can teach you how to make what you write better. This book offers a wide range of dramatic tools to develop a winning premise into a fully realized script and take an existing script to the next level. Most books on screenwriting suggest "this is where you should...". And indeed it should be there, but I want to know how to do it with with my story? Jeff not only shows you where to go, he gives you several ways to get there. His explanation of central dilemma is worth the meager $13.57 asking price. Do yourself a favor buy this book (I did and the response to my screenplay has gone from "good" to "I couldn't put it down").

The Holy Grail Of Screenwriting Advice

Look no further, Jeff Kitchen's book is the gold standard for building a a screenplay. I've read dozens of books on the craft, and this is the only one that leads you through the dirty work of building your story piece by piece.

Jeff's tools help you transform your tale into a compelling drama.

As a reader, you will feel like you're looking over Jeff's shoulder as he lays the bricks of a pyramid from the ground up.

I've been applying the tools to a script I previously completed. The DILEMMA tool really helped me get a handle on some weak spots regarding my main character. And the Sequence, Proposition, Plot tool blew me out of the water.

I also plan to use "Writing a Great Movie" to build other story ideas I've been working on. Jeff offers all the ingredients needed to cook up an original and memorable story.

But you still have to add the spices, brew the potion to just the right temperature and serve it to an audience hungry for a film that will "rock their world."

Jeff's book will help you do that. Too bad I could only give it five stars. It deserves at least ten.

Very useful, very practical

Unlike most screenwriting books, this one doesn't delve into formatting a script or selling a screenplay. Instead it gets deeply and thoroughly into the nuts and bolts of critical topics like storytelling, theme, and character development.

I particularly like his practical suggestions for using Polti's 36 dramatic situations and the enneagram as brainstorming tools. I've seen books on those things before but needed more information on the practical application of such tools, and this book is it. As one who writes short stories and novel-length fiction, this book has really helped me plow past some writer's block and take a hard look at my characters.

I can see using this book again and again, especially during National Novel Writing Month when I'm the most starved for a fresh idea.

Struggled

I struggled to finish this book. I really did not like the leading lady. Olivia was obnoxious and killed the story for me. I found it extremely hard to believe anyone could fall in love with her because she wasn't love able. The author didn't really give us a reason why people would feel loyal to her. The story had it all, just she was a dud.

Hummmm what can I say...Olivia a single Mom, Damon an Alpha Male, Alex an adorable toddler, two broken people who have lost people they loved, a nasty Mother, crazy lovable friends & family, psycho ex- boyfriend, sperm donor, drunken marriage in Vegas to a one night stand! Tears of joy, tears of sadness, unexpected twists... YUP this book has it all and you'll love it! Great job Sadie!

Starting in 1920, Adolph Zukor, Head of Paramount Pictures, over the decade of the 1920s helped to fashion Hollywood into a vertically integrated system, a set of economic innovations which was firmly in place by 1930. For the next three decades, the movie industry in the United States and the rest of the world operated by according to these principles. Cultural, social and economic changes ensured the dernise of this system after the Second World War. A new way to run Hollywood was required. Beginning in 1962, Lew Wasserman of Universal Studios emerged as the key innovator in creating a second studio system. He realized that creating a global media conglomerate was more important than simply being vertically integrated. Gomery's history tells the story of a 'tale of two systems 'using primary materials from a score of archives across the United States as well as a close reading of both the business and trade press of the time. This is a quite interesting book and definitely looks at Hollywood from a different perspectives. It isn't really a balance look, tho, as it definitely has its loves and hates. Loves old Paramout/Zukor and Wasserman (Universal), hates Zanuck (20th Century Fox) and Hughes (RKO). With Hughes he states numerous time that he destroyed RKO but then only provides a two sentence reason. Given all the space he gives to Zukor and Wasserman, a better description would be helpful. Sometimes he assumes the reader has no knowledge of an event goes on ad nauseum, other times he assumes you know all the details and gives you none. Toward the end he bails and declines to go in depth on a couple of studios because the head is still around (Disney) even tho he's been there for 20 years. More description and even analysis is possible. It also has some really stupid basic mistakes which proofreaders should have caught - million instead of billion, years movies came out, especially Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs (which is given 3 different years). But overall a very good read.

Very complete history

Unlike other histories of the major Hollywood studios that stop at the time when these were sent to separate their production operations, distribution and exhibition, which along with the advent of television decayed produced a to them, this book goes further and reaches modern times. It is interesting to know how they were born, who founded and worked the studies and their creators, all its difficulties, but we should know of those studies now, as Sony is Columbia Pictures, and Paramount sold its catalog to Universal, WB to Seven Arts and all that. These are issues rarely touched in other books on the subject. Interesting and complete.

excellent history of the studio system

Doug Gomery has written a fine book on the history of the Hollywood studio system. Whereas earlier treatments of this topic tend to neglect the period after the rise of television, Gomery does an excellent job of covering that period as well. One argument in the book that scholars will recognize as original is that the studio heads have always been quite concerned about distribution issues and that even though they no longer directly control the majority of movie screens they still have a lot to say about what gets screened and where. There is considerable detail in the book on the history of each of the major studios based on archival materials and interviews. This book should be required reading, in short, for anyone writing about Hollywood in the future.

Best memoir I've ever read. Tension of spy novel, but narrative observation of 19-year-old girl in perils of post-WW2 Hungary.

Late-in-life Anna Koczak has done a terrific job recreating the world she saw in 1947-49 Hungary, the situations she encountered, and the way she (the very young woman) reacted to them (mercurial ups and downs, petulant outbursts, sullen silences, delightful mental flights from grim reality, great hopes and great fears). The postscript -- a reunion 50 years later with her old nemesis from the communist secret police -- is a wonderful confirmation that love indeed had triumphed over incredible evil. Clearly Anna's guardian angel had been working overtime during that dark period of the brutal repression of the Hungarian people. Most Americans today know little of that history, but many who grew up in the Catholic school system here in the 1950's and -60's recall the imprisonment and torture of Hungary's Cardinal Archbishop Mindszenty. They prayed for him daily for many years.

A Single Yellow Rose is an amazing story demonstrating the intense courage and passion portrayed by the author during the WW II Nazi occupation of Hungary. Her vivid memories paint unforgettable descriptions of significant events both personal and historic . Her story makes an absolutely unforgettable read!

Anna's story is historically informative, sobering, tender, harrowing, and at last, satisfying. We can all be thankful we have not faced even a few of decisions she was forced to make, without hesitation or time to plot the potential risks. There were sections I read only during daylight!
