About the Author
Dr Yves Crama is Professor of Operations Research and Production Management and the former Director General of the HEC Management School of the University of Liège, Belgium. He is widely recognized as a prominent expert in the field of Boolean functions, combinatorial optimization and operations research, and he has coauthored more than 70 papers and three books on these subjects. Dr Crama is a member of the Editorial Board of Discrete Applied Mathematics, Discrete Optimization, the Journal of Scheduling and 4OR - the quarterly journal of the Belgian, French and Italian Operations Research Societies.

The late Peter L. Hammer (1936-2006) was a Professor of Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Management Science and Information Systems at Rutgers University and the Director of Rutgers University Center for Operations Research (RUTCOR). He was the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the journals Annals of Operations Research, Discrete Mathematics, Discrete Applied Mathematics, Discrete Optimization and Electronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics. Dr Hammer was the initiator of numerous pioneering investigations of the use of Boolean functions in operations research and related areas, of the theory of pseudo-Boolean functions, and of the logical analysis of data. He published more than 240 papers and 19 books on these topics.

I still really like the curriculum

I am liking these math books less and less. I still really like the curriculum, but the textbook is completely useless. I don't even know why they make it honestly. These lessons need to be taught by a teacher or parent and then have the student work in the workbook. My disappointment is I would rather have something that would allow them to be more independent, like Saxon math, but I do like the singapore method better.

Bottom line, if you have time/skill to teach each lesson, this is better than saxon imo, but if you need something for more independent work, use Saxon or something else.

Every parent should use this to support their child's education.

I have been using these books since my son has been in grade one. He is not home schooled. I use these books to support his mathematical abilities. The workbook goes at a nice pace and provides enough examples that he doesn't need much intervention from me. Each concept builds on the prior exercise. He can sit at the table and complete an exercise while I cook dinner.

We love the Singapore Math workbooks. We have used Grade 1 through Grade 4. The program introduces concepts a little differently than schools around here but it seems to work better. All three of my kids have had no problem grasping the concepts as they present them. There is little demonstration in the workbooks on how to work the problems. After grade 4, I'm going to have to buy the text book. I've had to look up a few things that I've forgotten in this Grade 4 workbook especially on fractions. I feel like my kids are getting a comprehensive math program. The only thing we've had to supplement is memorizing math facts and multiplication tables.

Grade 7 Up-In each of these titles, 10 myths of an ancient culture are presented on double-page spreads with text on one page and a color reproduction of a work of art on the facing page. A second spread offers information about an aspect of ancient culture related to the myth. For example, an explanation of the Aztec calendar follows "The Five Suns," "Orpheus and Eurydice" is followed by an essay on death and the Eleusinian Mysteries, and an entry about Bacchus is accompanied by information on food and drink in ancient Rome. Each secondary essay is illustrated with three or four small color illustrations that include maps, photos of ruins and artifacts, and reproductions of sculptures or other artistic expressions from the culture. The table of contents includes only the names of the myths, but the contents of the secondary essays are included in the index. (Note: the series has a major printing error-the table of contents for Greece appears in Rome and vice versa.) Although there are numerous collections of Greek and Roman myths suitable for this audience, this series is unique in its inclusion of information about each ancient culture between the retellings. The volume of Pre-Columbian American myths will be especially welcome in libraries where demand for myths of the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayas is high, since there are far fewer books available on this subject.

Dutch and Water: Seeking their own level

This is a great contemporary look at the Dutch (The Netherlands) and their "partnership" with water. They have managed to control and live with this amazing force of nature and help others in the world do the same. At once comfortable and respectful with this element, their culture has also been shaped by it. The photography is beautiful and illustrative in explaining the text. You can really get a feel for the landscape and the "light" that is so well known in Dutch art that is seen in all the great museums of the world. This is a very informative text and one that you can pick up and read at any point in the book. You can feel the water and the wind...
