Thoughtful, concise overview of grant process

This brief book provides a concise overview of the grant process, not just how to write grant proposals.
The author breaks down the grant process into three parts (Prepare, Persuade, and Perform) and discusses each part by using brief (1-2 pages) summaries of key elements and practice pointers that he labels "Strategies." Although each of the 101 sections is called a "Strategy," some sections are strategic in nature and some tactical in nature. The Prepare portion (58 Strategies) discusses a variety of things that an individual or organization should do before writing a grant proposal. The Persuade portion (33 Strategies) discusses the things an individual or organization should do when writing and submitting a grant proposal. The Perform portion (10 Strategies) discusses various things that a grant recipient has to do after winning a grant.
The book is too brief to provide a comprehensive discussion of the grant process, but it does a good job of providing an interesting and thoughtful perspective that places grant writing in a broader context. By pointing out how grant writing is part of an overall process, and not an end in itself, this book can be a valuable supplement to other books on grant writing. If you are looking to win grants this book is a must read. The author has an easy to read style that gives you an action plan to succeed. He gets to the point in every chapter with succinct bullet points throughout the book to summarize the info. If you cannot win grants after reading this book then you need to find another line of work!
